In this message our Blessed Lady is putting before us in simple but loving words her plan and desire for the renewal of our faith through her 'school of prayer,' an unprecedented phenomenon in the history of the Church. It will be: (1) under Our Lady's leadership, (2) under her protection, and (3) under her maternal care.
Such a role was entrusted to our Blessed Lady by her dying Son on the Cross (John 19:26). The Second Vatican Council gave us a magnificent teaching on Our Lady's role as the "Mother of the Church" (Lumen Gentium, Chapter 8), and the Popes have been encouraging us ever since through their encyclical letters and apostolic exhortations (especially by Pope John Paul II's Encyclical letter Redemptoris Mater) to respond to our Blessed Lady as the beloved disciple John did, and allow her to be our Mother, Teacher and Model. It is very important that through our reflections in this first phase a happy relationship develops between our Blessed Mother and ourselves as her children and pupils.
