After thanking the people of Medjugorje for their prayers, our Blessed Mother invites them and all of us to continue with our prayerful efforts in helping her plan to be fulfilled. As a next step, she invites us to a powerful way of helping in her mission through communal prayer, shared prayer, especially through the Family Rosary.
In fulfilment of Our Lady's plans, which are in fact God's plans, the role given by her to the Holy Rosary, and now to the Family Rosary, should not surprise us if we consider how the Church for centuries has encouraged the faithful to practise this devotion. Pope Leo XIII alone wrote three encyclical letters on the Holy Rosary, in 1895, 1897 and 198, urging the faithful to meditate on the mysteries of our redemption for threefold intentions: (a) unity between the Churches of East and West, (b) for the development of the spiritual life of the faithful; (c) to combat the evils of modern society and the threats of godless political movements. The apparitions of Our Lady as Queen of the Holy Rosary at Fatima in 1917 confirmed these intentions. These are valid for our time, too. Perhaps families and prayer groups could adopt these intentions.
