"...it appears that our Blessed Lady's training of us in the spiritual life is a progressive one, one section linking up with the next, a gradual progress towards a deeper spiritual life. This is not a new idea, of course, when we consider the classical stages of spiritual formation, connected with the great masters if the spiritual life like St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, St. Ignatius of Loyola and others. These classical stages of spiritual formation are: the purgative way, the illuminative way and the unitive way. In similar way, we can divide the 150 weeks into three stages of spiritual formation, 'three years of programme" if you like. ... Each year's programme is divided into five sections, I call them phases, and each phase includes a period of 10 weeks."
