SPIRITUAL EXCERCISES & RSV BIBLE EXTRACTS - WEEK 140
STARTS THURSDAY 30th SEPTEMBER 2010
THE POWER OF ‘MARIAN HOLINESS OF LIFE’
(A) CALLED TO BECOME CO-WORKERS OF OUR LADY
Weekly message No. 135 (25th September 1986).
The power of living in peace and truth.
“Dear children! By your own peace I am calling you to help others to see and begin to seek peace. You, dear children, are at peace and not able to comprehend lack of peace. Therefore, I am calling you, so that by your prayer and your life you help to destroy everything that is evil in people and uncover the deception that Satan makes use of. You pray that the truth prevails in all hearts.
Thank you for having responded to my call.”
PRACTICAL:
Try this week to become instrumental in making peace in any dispute around you.
Matthew 6:1-4.
1“Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.” 2“Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
Romans 14:17-19.
17For the kingdom of God is not food and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit; 18he who thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual up building.
2 Corinthians 13:11-13.
11Finally, brethren, farewell. Mend your ways, heed my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. 12Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13All the saints greet you.
Hebrews 12:14-17.
14Strive for peace with all men, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. 15See to it that no one fail to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” spring up and cause trouble, and by it the many become defiled; 16that no one be immoral or irreligious like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. 17For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears.
Romans 12:18-21.
18If possible, so far as it depends upon you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20No, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head.” 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
John 8:31-32.
31Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Cf. John 14:15-17.
15“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor, to be with you for ever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.”
John 17:18-19.
18As thou didst send me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in truth.
