Through the first year’s programme our Blessed Mother, Teacher and Model, has put before us the basic ideals of Gospel spirituality and called us to live a life of prayer and love accordingly. Once we have accepted her invitation and started to live a life of prayer and love, guided by Our Lady, we must be prepared to grow in this holy life and to come to perfection. This is the objective of the second year’s programme in Our Lady’s school of prayer.
Matthew 5:1-6
Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
2nd day: Friday
Lament of Jesus over Jerusalem because the people did not accept his message of peace.
Luke 19:41-42
And when he drew near and saw the city he wept over it, saying, “Would that even today you knew the things that make for peace! But now they are hid from your eyes.”
Cf. Luke 13:34-35
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
3rd day: Saturday
The true disciple who listens to the Lord and acts accordingly.
Luke 6:46-49
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Every one who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep, and laid the foundation upon rock; and when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But he who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation; against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
4th day: Sunday
Do what the Word tells you.
James 1:22-25
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who observes his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But he who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer that forgets but a doer that acts, he shall be blessed in his doing.
5th day: Monday
The true family of Jesus.
Luke 8:19-21
Then his mother and his brethren came to him, but they could not reach him for the crowd. And he was told, “Your mother and your brethren are standing outside, desiring to see you.” But he said to them, “My mother and my brethren are those who hear the word of God and do it.”
Cf. Luke 11:28
28 But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
6th day: Tuesday
Praying together staying together in the unity of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 4:3-4
Eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call.
7th day: Wednesday
Being one body through the peace of Christ reigning in our hearts, and through the Word of God.
Colossians 3:15-17
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
